ABOUT THE CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS COURSE
Critical conversations are part and parcel of management and being able to handle them effectively is an essential skill all leaders should have. They can be difficult, but they can also be uplifting and rewarding. They are as much about recognising success and contribution as they are about challenging poor performance and behaviours.
Our critical conversation training helps leaders to avoid heat of the moment, unplanned and often emotional responses. We help them consider the outcome they want to achieve and the feedback style best suited to achieve that outcome. The result being a planned intervention that is designed to maximise the help given to an individual or group.

Critical Conversation Course Overview
Our critical conversation training will help leaders plan, approach, and conduct critical conversations with confidence.
Research into critical conversations tells us that there are six key intervention styles that are available to leaders. It also shows that most of us default to two, maybe three of them. Leaving a big gap in our toolkit. Ahead of the critical conversation training course we’ll ask individuals to complete an intervention styles questionnaire that will help them better understand their own preference.
The critical conversation training will cover the six major types of intervention in detail and arm delegates with the tools to pick the right one for the right situation. We give them confidence to experiment with those they are less familiar with and during the session there is the opportunity to work through multiple role play exercises as both an observer and participant. Giving real insight into how different the tone, tempo and outcome of a discussion can be depending on the style chosen.
Our critical conversation training sessions can be run wherever is most suitable for you and your team, whether that is onsite, at an external venue or hosted as a remote online session. The flexibility is there to fit it around you and your needs. Our most recent session included learners in Miami, USA with the facilitator in Lincolnshire UK. Proving again that quality leadership development doesn’t rely on face-to-face events.
Our critical conversation training can be run in one of three ways. As a half or full-day standalone session, combined with our other courses to create a full management training programme or as a short, condensed 2-hour speaker session. The full day critical conversation training session includes a significant amount of practice including allowing individuals to work on real-life critical conversations they need to have with their teams.
Who would benefit from our critical conversation training?
Our critical conversation training is aimed at those with direct people management responsibility, to help them communicate more effectively with their teams. While leadership skills develop with experience this critical conversation training will be of benefit to leaders of all levels and experience. It will help them to assess their style and learn new techniques to make critical conversations easier. Giving them an understanding of what makes conversations critical plus how to approach, structure and conduct them to ensure a successful outcome.
